The Community College of the Air Force is one of several federally chartered degree-granting institutions; however, it is the only 2-year institution exclusively serving enlisted members.

Warren's CCAF Advisory Bobby Murray, 90th Force Support Squadron, knows this, and uses his knowledge and training to motivate base members to earn their associate degree.

And it doesn't stop there.

Once a person attains that associate degree, Mr. Murray said, he'll guide them through the college courses needed for a bachelor's degree.

"You'll never have a chance like this for free for the rest of your life," he said. "If you don't take advantage of it now, you'll regret it later.

"Take my word," Mr. Murray said without humor. "Personal experience."

Mr. Murray said it is much easier now than it ever has been to study and pass college courses. With the expansion of online schooling, defense activity for non-traditional education support testing and college-level exemption program testing, military members have a better chance for that higher education.

Military members can take both the DANTES and CLEP tests, he said. However, if a person fails either test, they cannot retake that same test for 180 days.

But, people can take as many different classes as they want, he said. Failing one of those exemption tests does not negatively affect a grade point average.

"Now-a-days, the world expects more than just a high school diploma," he said.

"Come talk to me. Let me find out what you need to get a degree, and let's do it. There's no time better than now."
