Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, Air Force chief of staff, visited the Pronghorn Center here Wednesday to preside over the retirement of a Warren chief master sergeant.

Chief Master Sgt. Al Martinez, 90th Missile Wing and friend of General Schwartz, ends his 30-year commitment to the Air Force soon and said he was happy the general made his retirement a strikingly special event.

Chief Martinez met General Schwartz while working for the general as a communications expert in Special Operations Command.

Throughout the many deployments at that command, the general grew to understand and depend upon Chief Martinez' professionalism and skill.

While the general sincerely thanked Chief Martinez for his outstanding leadership and dependability, the mood at the retirement ceremony remained jovial.

There's an old saying, General Schwartz said with a laugh, "if you've served at two bases that no longer exist, it's time to retire."

Chief Martinez thanked the men and women of F.E. Warren for making this last assignment the best assignment. He said he was honored to have worked with such fine Airmen.
