Col. Greg Tims, 90th Missile Wing commander, spent two hours Sept. 10 on what he called, "an eye-opening tour," of the 90th Medical Group.

"I learned more about medical in those two hours than I had ever known about a military clinic," he said.

Colonel Tims began his trip at the Warren Health and Wellness Center, located in the Freedom Hall Fitness Center. He learned that the HAWC staff's expertise and tools are available not only to assist members in getting fit but in taking their fitness to the next level.

After meeting the command staff of the 90th MDG, the 90th MW commander visited the Tricare Operations Center to learn more about its Wounded Warrior Program from Barb Fluellen, 90th Medical Support Squadron. Ms. Fluellen explained the program's mission: to help any Defense Department beneficiary returning to F.E. Warren who is in need of assistance.

The third visit on the tour was to Capt. William Lunsford, 90th MDSS; Tech. Sgt. Christine Rambler and the readiness team who demonstrated a communication tool called Web Emergency Operations Center.

Captain Lunsford said the Web EOC enables the medical group during a real world disaster exercise to stay in contact with the Crisis Action Team, Emergency Operations Center and downtown agencies with a click of a button. He went on to explain that the medical group readiness office also functions as a back-up location for Laramie County 911 -- a first in DoD.

Next was meeting with Senior Airman Tommy Vinh and Senior Airman Kimberly Kretsch, 90th Medical Operations Squadron, who highlighted initiatives the dental clinic and medical group have taken to ensure Warren Airmen are medically ready. This included an overview of the Green Day program.

Airmen Vinh and Kretsch explained that Green Day is an opportunity for members to get both their Preventive Health Assessment and periodic dental requirements met in just one, two-hour visit.

"What a great service to our Airmen," Colonel Tims said.

Colonel Tims then spent a few minutes with Robert Washburn and Master Sgt. Jeanette Olive, 90th MDOS, as they walked him through their annual Personal Reliability Program record review process.

"Their team is ensuring all I's are dotted and T's crossed so that our PRP program remains a zero-defect program," Colonel Tims said.

Sergeant Olive and Staff Sgt. Dane Sauer, 90th MDOS, then demonstrated their in-place patient decontamination process. They informed the wing commander they were the first in the Air Force to take this process inside, of the weather. They said this process allows their 24 person team to be ready within 10 minutes to decontaminate 100 patients, triage them, and get them to definitive care.

The last stop on the tour was to see Senior Airman Dominique Jamieson, Senior Airman Michael Ames and Airman 1st Class Daniel Rivera in the bioenvironmental shop. Here, they demonstrated the steps they go through to identify an unknown substance.
They also reassured the wing commander they are there to support members both on base and in the missile field, alongside maintainers and security forces, to ensure Airmen have a safe environment to work in.

During his tour, Colonel Tims said he learned the 90th MDG is a well-oiled machine. It provides more than 40,000 visits and more than 100,000 prescriptions each year, not to mention the care it coordinates for member enrollees within the Tricare network.

"Today though, I experienced a side of the medical group that most don't see when they come in for a scratchy throat or sprained ankle -- the side that, combined with their outstanding medical and dental care, ensures that F.E. Warren provides the pre-eminent combat capability across the spectrum of conflict," said Colonel Tims. "Well done MDG!"
