The biggest military snow sports weekend in the Rocky Mountains will take place Jan. 28 through 30 at Keystone, Colo. SnoFest 2011 features a number of competitive and just-for-fun races for adults and children of all ages.

Racers of all ages and levels of ability are invited to participate in free ski and snowboard races on Jan. 28 and 29. Start times vary depending on bracket placement. Friday's racing features team and individual ski and snowboard racing and the Commander's Cup race. Saturday's racing features teen, youth, open ski and snowboard racing. This year's race will be handicapped so that racers of both genders and all ages will have a fair shot at winning.

For information on races, competition groups, race times and scoring, Air Force Global Strike Command members should visit http://www.21fss.com, and follow the SnoFest links to download the ski and snowboard races information sheet. Race registration forms can be found through the SnoFest 2011 website. All racers must register no later than Jan. 26.

Fax signed and completed race registration forms to 719-556-8976. Or e-mail a scanned copy to: warren.schroeder@peterson.af.mil.

The infamous annual cardboard derby at SnoFest is the most fun that is legally allowed with duct tape and cardboard. To the delight of racers and spectators, dozens of entries slid down the slope with various degrees of success last year.

To enter the 2011 derby, participants can build a racer in advance and bring it to the Discovery slope, just west of the Ski School and Children's Center, at SnoFest. Or, build the entry on-site using the free materials provided, while supplies last.

Derby entries must be built using only cardboard, duct tape, rope, paper and paint. Register a cardboard derby entry Jan. 29, between 1 and 3 p.m. in the SnoFest hospitality area in the Mountain House. Judging begins at 3:30 p.m. with the competition starting at 4 p.m.
