Community leaders and Air Force Global Strike Command military members gathered together in the Cowboy Chapter of Air Force Association's Community Partners Recognition Luncheon in Cheyenne, Feb. 8, 2011.

The luncheon was sponsored by members of the local AFA Cowboy Chapter #357 and headed by Mrs. Irene Johnigan, president of the local chapter.

"It is our honor and distinct pleasure to recognize our community partners," Mrs. Johnigan began. "You are the catalyst behind all of our community programs and success. Your continued support is greatly appreciated."

Maj. Gen. Donald Alston, 20th Air Force commander, presided as guest speaker for the event recognizing and focusing on strong, community partnership.

"With the right leadership, drive and commitment, things will happen," said the general. "And under Irene's watch, things most definitely happen."

"Twentieth Air Force depends a great deal on three communities, Cheyenne, Great Falls and Minot," he continued. "Our kids attend your schools, and our spouses work in your communities. Warren depends on a range of counties across three states, for miles of roads, sometimes in austere conditions."

"Together, we manage risk every day, and together, we have seen success," General Alston stated.

"Americans support our military and our servicemembers," the general explained. "However, there are very few communities that understand the intricacies of our military missions, especially our nuclear deterrence mission. This community absolutely understands why we're here."

The general's closing remarks centered on how the community supports its Airmen.
"Thank you for taking care of our Airmen," he said. "There is no doubt in my mind that when our Airmen go out into your streets to get a bite to eat, purchase something at your local business or participate in a local program, that they will find fantastic support. The Cheyenne community represents a proud America to our Airmen, and you do it well."

"It is an honor to share this community with you, and we look forward to a continued and successful partnership with each of you," ended Mrs. Johnigan.
