Vehicle registration requirements for military members Published June 3, 2011 By Staff Reports F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- Effective May 12, 2011, in the case of individuals applying for an exemption from Wyoming ad valorem tax on motor vehicles, the Laramie County Treasurer's Office will be requiring non-resident military personnel applying for Wyoming vehicle registration to provide a copy of their current end of the month leave and earning statement, military identification, current driver's license, and the Affidavit of Nonresidence and Military Service Exemption Form. This form can be found at http://webgate.co.laramie.wy.us/_departments/_treasurer/military.asp. If the driver's license is not from the state of residence claimed on the leave and earning statement, the military person or military spouse must provide additional proof of residency in another state. Such proof may consist of: · W-2 or state income tax filing, · Voter registration identification from the state of residency, · Hunting or fishing license from the other state, or · Property tax bill in the military member's name from the state of residence they are claiming. The Affidavit of Nonresidence and Military Service Exemption Form requires the military member to swear "under the penalty of perjury" that they are eligible for an exemption from the Wyoming ad valorem tax on motor vehicles. The form also requires the signature of one witness. Spouses of military members also need to be aware that if they choose not to move with the military member to the military member's next duty station, they may not qualify for the exemption from the Wyoming ad valorem tax on motor vehicles.
