Members of Air Force Global Strike Command's 90th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal flight donned orange vests in lieu of their tactical garb, to help beautify the local community through the Adopt-A-Highway program June 9 on I-25 in Cheyenne, Wyo.

"We've been involved in the program for a few years now," said Senior Airman Sherman Miller, 90th CES EOD training section. "It's the first time we've done the cleanup this year, but we do it at least twice a year."

Airman Miller organized the trip to the flight's two-mile stretch of highway for nine active-duty members and one civilian contractor.

"We're like family; we spend a lot of time together," said Tech. Sgt. Bridget Crudden, 90th CES NCO-in-charge of quality assurance. "When we do volunteer projects as a group, we can dedicate more time and effort to community involvement."

She explained local volunteer efforts make it easier to give back to the community, while not conflicting with the constant training and deployment commitments of the high-tempo career field.

The Adopt-A-Highway program offers non-profit groups the opportunity to help keep the roadways in the state free of clutter and trash, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation Web site. Volunteers are recognized with their own sign at both ends of their adopted section.

"Projects like this really increase morale and camaraderie," Airman Miller said. "It's really easy to sign up; you just have to call WYDOT."

Organizations interested in adopting their own section of highway can contact WYDOT at (307) 745-2136, or visit their Web site at www.dot.state.wy.us.
