With the school year approaching soon, the education center staff here recently started "Operation Back to School."

The program is a school supply drive originally started by Mary Schwem, University of Embry Riddle Director of Academic Support. The drive started July 7 and goes through Aug. 22.

"Some of the big ticket items needed are backpacks and graphics calculators," Schwem said. "But, we accept all sorts of school supplies for those starting kindergarten through taking courses at Laramie County Community College."

Donation points on base can be found at the education center, child development center, Base Exchange, Fall Hall Community Center, Airman & Family Readiness Center, library and aquatic center.

After donations have been collected, the education center staff will take them to Needs Inc. for distribution.

The education center has teamed with Needs Inc. for the past several years to aid in supplying Laramie County students with what they need to start a new school year.

Supplies are available to those on the free/reduced lunch program. Eligible people must show a copy of their current school registration, an identification card and proof of Laramie County residency.

Supplies are to be distributed Aug. 17 through 19 by Needs Inc.

"While this drive takes place at the onset of the school year, supplies are available throughout the school year," Schwem said.
