The six-member 90th Security Forces Group team competed in this year's final Global Strike Challenge security forces competition at Camp Minden, La., Monday.

Before the challenge took place the team trained non-stop for 30 days. They were given a broad picture on the various tasks, but weren't aware of the actual tasks until the competition took place Sunday and Monday. The tasks included firing, tactics and concluded with a mental and physical challenge.

According to Staff Sgt. Ernie Luna, 90th SFG, "The best part of the competition was the MAP [mental and physical] challenge; we got to work as a team instead of individual, and we all worked together seamlessly."

During Monday's competition, the Mighty Ninety cheered on the 90th SFG Global Strike Challenge team as they went through the course which took approximately 45 minutes.

"The team did an awesome job; they prepped well, and were ready," said Col. Tom Wilcox, 90th SFG commander. "They worked together, and I couldn't be prouder of them."

The team's six members are: Tech. Sgt. Derek Grant, 90th SFG Task Response Force and Global Strike Challenge team lead; Staff Sgt. Ernie Luna, 90th SFG/TRF; Senior Airman Patrick Currie, 90th Missile Security Forces Squadron; Senior Airman Oscar Gomez, 90th SFG/TRF; Airman 1st Class Derek Woods, 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron; Airman 1st Class James Clingo, 790th MSFS; and alternate Staff Sgt. John Maedel, 790th MSFS.

"Whether we place first or don't place at all, we worked hard, and it was a great experience for all of us," Grant said.

The team finds out the results of the competition during score posting Wednesday.
