Some exciting changes are happening at the Independence Hall Fitness Center in December. F. E. Warren Air Force Base has been selected as a test base for the new "24-Hour Fitness" concept, which allows anyone who is considered an authorized patron of the fitness center access to the cardio and strength training equipment at any time fitness assessments are not being conducted. Once registered, customers will be able to swipe their military ID cards to enter the facility and use the equipment while under camera surveillance for safety and security reasons.

In order to upgrade Independence Hall, services currently provided to customers, including access to the cardio and weight room and Fitness Assessment Cell testing sessions, will be affected. Renovations are scheduled to begin in January. After a grand-opening later in January, access to the fitness center will be granted with a simple swipe of a military ID card. This service will be provided to and those who pre-register with the fitness staff and anyone who has a bar code on their ID card such as retirees and dependents.

Active-duty military, retired military, Department of Defense and non-appropriated fund employees assigned to F. E. Warren, Guard or Reserve members and their dependents are authorized to use the 24-hour fitness center.

Patrons 16 years of age and older have unrestricted use of all facilities and equipment and do not need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. To ensure the safety of members using the fitness center, patrons 13 to 15 years of age require interactive supervision from an adult at all times in cardiovascular and weight rooms, and a parent or legal guardian must be in the facility to utilize running track. Children six to 12 years of age are prohibited from using cardiovascular and weight equipment, and use of the track requires interactive supervision from an adult at all times. Children younger than 6 years of age are not allowed in Independence Hall unless they are supervised spectators in a sporting or special event.

Additionally, a telephone and first aid kit will be available for use. Athletic attire must be worn by participants utilizing the facility and no street clothing, military uniforms, or street shoes will be allowed, as they present a safety hazard to the participant and may damage equipment. Violations to the policies and procedures can result in future denial of the 24-hour fitness center usage, and notifications of failure to comply will be made to sponsors and/or their unit's commander.

During the closure, we are also upgrading our fitness equipment with $95 thousand of new selectorized and cardio pieces to provide the best fitness services to our customers.
