Base aquatic center open for lap swim Published April 5, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Jason Wiese 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- More than 40 people gathered in the F. E. Warren Aquatic Center April 1 to celebrate its re-opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The aquatic center has been closed since 2011. The lifeguards employed to monitor the aquatic center before the closure were on three-year contracts, and due to budget cuts, the 90th Force Support Squadron was unable to renew their contracts when they expired, which forced the center's closure. This year, the 90th FSS received non-appropriated funds from Air Force Global Strike Command and hired lifeguards, which made it possible to re-open the center, said Maj. Ricardo Garcia, 90th FSS commander. The appropriately named 1st Lt. Heather Sealover, 321st Missile Squadron assistant flight commander and 90th Missile Wing Honor Guard officer-in-charge, trained the new group of lifeguards. "I was a competitive swimmer for 13 years, a lifeguard since 2003 and a lifeguard instructor since 2006," Sealover said. As someone who is an avid swimmer, she said she is thrilled for the center's re-opening. "I've been looking forward to this for a very long time," she said. For now, the aquatic center is open for adults looking to swim laps, but in the future, the 90th FSS is working on opening the pool to groups hoping to engage in water aerobics and unit physical training, swimming lessons, scuba diving certification, parties, etc., said Anthony Raas, 90th FSS Community Services Flight chief. The center is open 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for lap swim for those ages 16 and older.
