Kimball County Humvee Fire

Security forces Airmen from the 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron assigned to F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, discovered their HUMVEE was on fire while transiting Nebraska Highway 71 near the city of Kimball on April 11, 2022.

The occupants egressed the vehicle near mile marker 23, however they were unable to remove ammunition from the burning vehicle due to the intensity of the flames. Forty-millimeter grenades were transported in the vehicle. The Airmen quickly contacted local emergency responders and established a safety cordon. The Kimball Sheriff and fire departments are on scene; as well as, Nebraska State Patrol and Department of Transportation officials. Safety is our number one priority at F.E. Warren AFB.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, however, the incident will be investigated. A team from the 90th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight is on scene and will ensure the area is clear and safe once the fire is extinguished.
