The 90th Medical Group opened an automated dispensing unit at the base exchange for patients to pick up prescriptions on F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, March 29, 2022.

“With COVID-19 and the push for social distancing, there is a need for people to pick up medications with decreased face-to-face interaction,” said Maj. Mark McGiffin, Pharmacy flight commander with the 90th Healthcare Operations Squadron.

The dispensing units also make pickup more convenient for patients by extending pickup hours beyond those of the 90th Medical Group clinic.

“If you opt for the BX as your refill pickup location, you can access it anytime the BX is open,” said McGiffin. “If you are unable to make it to the pharmacy during duty hours, this is a good option for you.”

The dispensing unit takes the form of a locker and can hold up to 84 prescriptions at a time. Patients are required to enter a claim check code and their birthday in order to receive their prescription.
