F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- In honor of National Police Week, the 90th Security Forces Group held various events, closing with a family barbeque and final guardmount, May 17, on F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and the week in which that day falls as National Police Week. The purpose of the week is to pay respect to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“National Police Week is the recognition of those front line defenders who sacrifice time away from family, are always on call to take care of others and those who have paid the ultimate price,” said Major David Ratte, 90th Ground Combat Training Squadron commander.
Police Week allows families, friends and communities the chance to take time to remember and appreciate the people who keep them safe.
“During Police Week we, as defenders, come together in camaraderie to honor fallen police officers, military and civilian alike,” said Staff Sgt. Stetson Parker, 790 Missile Security Forces Squadron flight security controller. “We were able to pay tribute to the officers who have died in the line of duty, and say thank you to those who are still serving.”
The week ended with a final guard mount in remembrance of the law enforcement officers who have paid the ultimate price at home and abroad.
National Police Week wouldn’t be possible without current law enforcement officers and defenders staying true to their heritage.
