Tax season is almost here and the base Legal Office is looking for volunteers by Jan. 15, 2016, to assist with the tax center.

Every year, Airmen stationed here are provided an invaluable service. Volunteers from the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program assist hundreds of active duty military, retirees and their dependents with free tax preparation services.

Volunteers are needed to continue this program and ensure it's a success; a lack of volunteers could limit the preparation services to Airmen, as stated in a memorandum sent by the legal office. Military members, dependents and civilian employees may volunteer.

The center is scheduled to operate from Jan. 25 through Apr. 15.

Those helping will receive VITA training on how to prepare tax returns the week prior to the tax centers opening.

Volunteers are expected to work at least one four- hour shift per week.
