Mighty Nighty recognizes “The Tale of the Blue Beret” Published March 25, 2016 By Senior Airman Brandon Valle 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- The Warren ICBM and Heritage Museum held a grand opening for a new exhibit called, “Security Forces: The Tale of the Blue Beret,” March 21. Many patrons came out to the museum to learn about the exhibit and celebrate its opening. The exhibit was spearheaded by 1st Lt. Alexander Franklin, 90th Security Forces Squadron flight commander, with the help of Tech. Sgt. Andrew Hogue and Airman 1st Class Brandon Dahl, 90th SFS Airmen, said Paula Taylor, Warren ICBM and Heritage Museum curator. “The exhibit took about three months of preparation, from researching the correct equipment to finding the pieces needed for the display,” Franklin said. “All but 5 of the items that are displayed were donations from past defenders. The equipment is unable to be used in the field any longer, but is perfect to display the history of the defenders.” The exhibit is split into two sides, one for the Airmen who patrol the base and one side for those who guard the missile field. Each side shows equipment used by defenders, from gas masks and equipment bags to combat vests and night vision goggles. Visitors during the grand opening were given an in-depth explanation of the exhibit, where Hogue talked about each piece’s significance to defenders as they accomplished the mission. Franklin rounded out the opening by talking about the importance of the exhibit. “Of all the history captured from the base, there was always a big piece of the mission missing from the museum,” he said. “We are proud to showcase the mission for all those who protect the base and missile field.”
