The base intramural volleyball season began March 16 with the first games of the season between the 90th Security Forces Squadron and the 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron.

Thirteen teams will compete from across the wing and nearby organizations, the highest number of teams to sign up for an intramural sport here in two years.

Games will be held most Mondays through Thursdays, with several games per evening.  The season is scheduled through late April with playoffs scheduled for the first two weeks of May.

Each face off consists of up to three games, with winner of two out of three winning the match.
The first two games are to 21 points, and if the tiebreaker game is needed, it is 15 points.

The SFS team is off to a good start, winning their first match up, and they have high hopes for their season.

“I’m expecting us to win the championship,” said Bryan Patterson, SFS team member. “We’ve got the best team, in my opinion.”

Last year’s intramural volleyball winner was 90th Maintenance Group. This year, it is split into the 90th Missile Maintenance Squadron/790th Maintenance Squadron team and the 90th Munitions Squadron team, so the 90th SFS team will certainly have competition ahead of them.

People who wish to play on a team can contact their sports representatives to join intramural sports teams. People in organizations that do not have a team for a sport they would like to play can call 773-6172 to inquire about being placed on another team.

“Intramural sports is to boost morale within the units,” said Staff Sgt. Michael Mitchell, 90th Force Support Squadron base sports director.
