Budget constraints shorten library, aquatic center operations

F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. --  The aquatic center on base will be changing from a year-around function to seasonal function. The center will close Nov. 2 and will remain closed until Memorial Day, when it will re-open for seasonal hours throughout the summer until Labor Day.

The base library will begin new hours of operation Nov. 5, decreasing from 50 to 30 hours per week.

New library hours effective Nov. 5:

Sunday Closed
Monday Closed
Tuesday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

These decisions were not made lightly, especially knowing the importance and impact it will have on the F.E. Warren community. Due to 2014 fiscal year budget constraints and challenges across the 90th Missile Wing, leadership is forced to make tough decisions with regard to where dollars are invested.

The 90th Force Support Squadron took significant cuts in available funding used to support community programs. While careful budget planning will allow 90th FSS to continue most community programs, there will be significant cuts, specifically to the base library and aquatic center operations.

In light of the funding constraints, there are options of both the Laramie County Library and the municipal and YMCA pools within minutesof the installation.

The library has extensive programming available; its website, www.lclsonline.org, contains information on classes, programs, use of meeting rooms, and downloadable books. There are also computers and Wi-Fi capabilities.

The municipal and YMCA pools offer various swim programs including water aerobics, toning classes, lap swimming, water walking classes, and swimming lessons.
