Memorial Plunge honors fallen Airman Published Jan. 5, 2015 By Lan Kim 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- This year's annual Schwartz Memorial Plunge was held Jan. 3, 2015, on Cheyenne's Sloans Lake, where more than 90 Airmen and civilians participated. All proceeds raised from the event were donated to the EOD Warrior Foundation. The foundation provides financial assistance and support to wounded and fallen explosive ordnance disposal warriors and their families. This event started in 2013 in honor of Tech. Sgt. Matthew Schwartz, a 90th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance technician, who was killed in action while deployed to Afghanistan Jan. 5, 2012. An estimated $4,000 was raised by people braving the below-freezing temperatures and 34-degree water, said Tech. Sgt. David Kuric, 90th CES explosive ordnance technician, and one of the event's facilitators. The attendance increased from approximately 60 people last year to this year's largest ever attendance and the hope is to have even more participants next year.
