The 90th Medical Group and the American Red Cross established a memorandum of understanding April 28, 2015, to open the door for individuals that are a part of the Red Cross Volunteer Program.

The Red Cross has a continuous working relationship with various military organizations and programs involving health, welfare, recreation and morale of military personnel and their dependents.

"We provide some [infrastructure] to alleviate a portion of work from the [90th MDG]," said Wayne Lacey, American Red Cross regional director of services to the armed forces.

With the addition of this new agreement, the Red Cross can recruit and supply volunteers to the clinic, alleviating extra duties and letting Airmen in the clinic to focus on their mission.

"[The Red Cross] will track their training, competencies and hours," said Tech. Sgt. Nathan Stanfield, 90th MDG education and training manager. "That has never been anything we've done before."

"We get a wide range of volunteers, everything from those who have no experience and want to learn all the way to nurses, doctors and technicians who bring a wealth of knowledge," Lacey said. "We try to be very specific to try and meet the hospital as close as possible."

A prior Red Cross volunteer, Keri Riggs, speak highly of the program and giving back to the community.

"I think volunteering with Red Cross is amazing," said Riggs, spouse of Master Sgt. Duane Riggs, 90th Civil Engineer Squadron electrical supervisor. "I like volunteering because it gives me a way to give and help the community. To be able to volunteer on base, you have access to so much more education and learning."

Riggs' Laramie County Community College classmate Holli Meno, spouse of Nicholas Meno, 90th CES, also volunteers at the 90th MDG dental clinic.

"I look forward to gaining the experience and getting to work with different patients," Meno said. "I like meeting people from different places because everyone here is from somewhere else, and it's fun to get to know people."

Though it is recommended to volunteer through Red Cross, it is not required and neither Meno or Riggs are volunteering through the Red Cross program.

"We get volunteers and the volunteers get experience and the satisfaction of knowing that they volunteered and helped out," Stanfield said. "I think it's great. Having these volunteers here will really help us."
