Warren AFB, Wyo. -- The Warren Honorary Squadron Commander program kicked off its upcoming year of activities with a social Wednesday evening at the Plains Hotel in Cheyenne. The program pairs about 30 leaders from the Cheyenne military community with leaders from the civilian community in an effort to foster the growth of friendships and relationships that will benefit both the military members and civilians in Cheyenne. "The honorary squadron commander program provides an opportunity to share our mission and showcase our professional Airmen to the community," said Col. Michael Carey, 90th Space Wing commander. "It also provides the community members an opportunity to be involved with the base on a more intimate level." The social, which was coordinated through the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, provided food, drinks and a relaxing atmosphere where leaders from F. E. Warren, the Wyoming Air National Guard and the U.S. Navy could mingle with and get to know their civilian counterparts and anyone else in attendance. "This highlights the ongoing relationship between the business leaders of Cheyenne and the military leaders, as well as the benefits that come with that," said Lt. Col. Carleton Hirschel, 90th Services Squadron Commander. "I hope the all the leaders take the opportunity to become involved with their counterparts." The program also nurtures the joint relationship between the active duty, guard and reserve military leaders in Cheyenne, said Colonel Carey. "It's a fabulous relationship, and you get to see it here tonight," said Colonel Carey. United States Reps. Barbara Cubin, R-Wyo. and Terry Everett, R-Ala. stopped by the social to provide their support to the program and encourage efforts to strengthen relations between the military and civilian communities in Cheyenne. "You make my job easy," said Representative Cubin.
