NetLink allows online training in LCCs Published Feb. 28, 2007 By Capt. Justin Tolliver 90th Maintenance Operations Squadron F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- Ninetieth Space Wing operations crew members now have the ability to access their base e-mail and all base network functions from launch control centers located throughout the tri-state area. The NetLink system uses fiber-optics to allow crew members to access computers located topside at the missile alert facility and in the communications room in the LCC buried 60 feet underground. Warren is on its way to being the first base with an operational NetLink system at all LCCs. It is a quality-of-life improvement for the crews and provides them a tool for accessing e-mail and online ancillary training while pulling alert. The 90th Maintenance Operations Squadron technical engineers with assistance from the 90th Missile Maintenance Squadron Missile Communication Flight began installing NetLink at LCCs Jan. 29, 2007. The non-stop process finished two sites each day. The hardened intersite cable system shop installed the new fiber optic cable that connects the computer to the LCC. Technical engineering then routed that cable into the capsule and removed the old television. A new 19-inch monitor was then installed on a movable arm. The arm allows the crew members to adjust the display to a more comfortable viewing angle. However, the display can still be completely stowed in case a higher state of readiness is needed. U.S. Strategic Command members are installing the computer in the communications room and connecting it to the base network. They are working with the technical engineers in the LCC to ensure there is a good connection with the display.
