Security forces members here participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, transporting the Flame of Hope for the Wyoming Special Olympic Games from Wheatland, Wyo., to Warren.

Forty security forces Airmen carried the torch from Wheatland to Warren May 9, and more than 300 participants ran the torch through base May 10. It was turned over to the Cheyenne Police Department for its final run to the games in Laramie, Wyo.

The annual torch run supports the state's Special Olympic Games. Tech. Sgt. Travis Chadick, 90th Security Support Squadron, and Tech. Sgt. Joe Cason, 90th Missile Security Forces Squadron, were the military liaisons for the event.

"We as law enforcement officials are here to protect and serve, and by doing this event, we are including both," Sergeant Chadick said.

The security forces members protected the torch, kept it overnight and delivered it to the Cheyenne Police Department the next morning.

"It's rewarding to be a part of this so I can make an impact on something that's bigger than me," Sergeant Chadick said.

The torch traveled more than 500 miles through the state with the support of law enforcement agencies, arriving in Laramie just before the games began May 10.

No motor vehicles or other automatic transportation were allowed for the run. The torch was only to be transported by means of walking, jogging, running and biking.

"It's important for my children to see me do events like this," Sergeant Cason said. "It just might inspire them to give back and to teach others to give back, too."

Sergeant Cason held the Flame of Hope through Warren leading the more than 300-member formation to the front gate.
