The Warren company grade officer council is scheduled to hold its first-ever golf tournament July 13 with a shotgun start of 12:30 p.m.

While the primary reason for the event is to raise funds for future CGOC events, it is also a great opportunity for junior military members, officer or enlisted, to interact and receive valuable mentorship from senior leadership.

The CGOC hopes to see field grade officers and senior NCOs take the opportunity to partner with CGOs and Airmen on a team in order to give the younger troops an opportunity to interact with leadership in an informal environment they wouldn't normally find at work.

In many cases, this is the best type of mentorship one can receive from senior leadership.

"Leaders should take mentorship outside the office and build a winning team," said Capt. Andrew Mercer, 90th Operations Support Squadron and officer in charge of CGO professional development.

The funds from this event will be used to support a variety of causes. In the past the CGOC has provided funds for events such as Retirement Appreciation Day, wing dining out, wing Christmas party and the wing annual awards ceremony. In addition to supporting base organizations and events, the CGOC also plans on using future funds to augment the cost for CGOs who want to attend professional development events.

"Previously, the CGOC's main obstacle for holding events has been lack of funds. With a successful golf tournament we will be able to support the base/community in a much more dynamic way," said Capt. Naomi Weaver, 90th Missile Maintenance Squadron and CGOC vice president.
