Warren welcomed Brig. Gen. Brad Butler, Air Force Space Command director of logistics and warfighting integration, June 27 to 29.

During his tour, General Butler witnessed various functions of the 90th Mission Support Group, 90th Operations Group and 90th Maintenance Group. During the 90th MXG tour, he was exposed to numerous aspects of ICBM maintenance operations to include the weapons storage area, training launch facility, hardened intersite cabling system section and a missile downstage installation.

The general's tour began with a pancake breakfast hosted in the maintenance high bay so he could sit and talk with various enlisted members from maintenance, logistics and communications squadrons.

"I enjoyed sitting and talking with General Butler. He talked about his experience on a [senior NCO] promotion board and what made a package stand out. Also, he discussed that senior leaders are reviewing the consequence management team program," said Staff Sgt. Jason Catchings, 90th Maintenance Operation Squadron.

After breakfast General Butler attended the 90th OG pre-departure briefing in Bldg. 1292.
The next few stops took General Butler to see the 90th MSG, 90th Communications Squadron, 90th Logistics Readiness Squadron and an office call with Colonel Michael Morgan, 90th Space Wing commander. Following lunch at the golf course with company grade officers, he visited the WSA for a behind-the-fence look at re-entry system maintenance. General Butler then went to the training launch facility uniform-01 to see a demonstration of the new fast-rising B-plug. This important modification helps ensure the security of on-alert assets in the missile field by shaving precious minutes off shutdown time.

The next stop was over at the HICS section to learn about the challenges facing the buried cables and lines stretched all over Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska.

General Butler presented the AFSPC Maintenance Effectiveness Award to both the 90th Missile Maintenance Squadron and 90th MOS. Additionally, the AFSPC Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award for Outstanding Missile Maintenance Supervisor Manager of the Year 2006 was presented to Senior Master Sgt. Tony Bales, 90th MOS superintendent.
"These awards represent all of the men and women of the 90th Maintenance Group and their talent, professionalism and teamwork," General Butler said.

General Butler's last stop of the 90th MXG tour was the installation of a missile downstage as part of the propulsion replacement program. This modernization program is one of eight being accomplished by the 90th MXG to extend the service life of the Minuteman III through 2030. In order to get to the missile complex the 37th Helicopter Squadron provided transportation to and from a launch facility and missile alert facility.
