Security forces discontinue vehicle decals Published Sept. 21, 2007 By Master Sgt. M.K. Yarbrough 90th Security Forces Squadron F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- The 90th Security Forces Group is implementing new vehicle entry procedures effective immediately. Air Force Form 2220, commonly known as vehicle decals, is no longer required at Warren. To gain access, everyone passing through Warren's gates must show gate guards any type of military-issued identification card: installation ID card, common access card, dependant or retired ID card, civilian cards, contractor badges or Warren visitor passes. Those without a military-issued ID or pass must visit the visitor's control center outside the main gate with a driver's license, valid proof of insurance and vehicle registration. The VCC staff can issue Air Force Form 75, visitor's pass, which is good for 30 days. Individuals may keep current vehicle decals for access to other installations. Expired stickers can be renewed by providing ID, drivers license, proof of insurance and registration to pass and registration. Some Defense Department installations still allow entry based on vehicle decals. It is important to remove and destroy decals before selling them or transferring ownership of the vehicle so unauthorized individuals cannot use them to gain access to those installations. Many DoD installations are eliminating vehicle decals to save resources. After Sept. 11, 2001, security at all DoD installations required 100 percent driver ID card checks in addition to the vehicle decals. As a result of the ID checks, the use of vehicle decals became unnecessary since ID card checks are thought to be more effective at identifying individuals. Vehicle decals also can be a force protection vulnerability. They can be easily counterfeited, moved from one car to another or found in used car parking lots. Additionally, when an installation gate sentry is focusing on vehicle decals, it distracts them from the potential danger driving or riding inside the vehicle. Airmen who purchase a new vehicle must receive an AF Form 75 for identification purposes until permanent plates are attached. The VCC will issue forms for the duration of the temporary plates.
