90th Space Wing excels during back-to-back inspections Published Oct. 1, 2007 By 2nd Lt. Lisa Meiman 90th Space Wing Public Affairs F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- The 90th Space Wing recently earned high scores from the Air Force Space Command inspector general after completing an unusual back-to-back pair of inspections. "You all have a lot to be proud of," said Col. Dan Adams, AFSPC inspector general, to a packed audience of Airmen inside the base theater Sept. 20. For almost two weeks, the 90th SW completed a nuclear surety inspection and an operational readiness inspection, testing the wing's capabilities to go to war. A nuclear surety inspection assesses the wing's ability to safely handle, protect and transport critical components associated with the Minuteman III missile system. The 90th Space Wing demonstrated, without a doubt, that the president, chief of staff of the Air Force, Congress should have no concerns about its competence, dedication and professionalism, said Maj. Gen. Roger Burg, Twentieth Air Force commander. An operational readiness inspection evaluates the ability to survive and operate while conducting wartime tasks. The 90th SW earned an "Excellent" rating, demonstrating superior mission effectiveness and readiness. "The 90th Space Wing's performance, across the board, was the best performance we have seen in Space Command in the past three years," Colonel Adams said. This ORI inspection was also the first time the new Air Force Incident Management System, a plan that changed the way the Air Force responds to emergency situations, was implemented by a wing during an ORI. In response to the IG team's assessment, Col. Mike Morgan, 90th Space Wing commander, thanked the inspectors for telling the wing what it already knew, "We are the best damn space wing in the United States Air Force."
