The BX will soon be home to a Christmas tree with one mission: To help those in need this holiday season.

The Angel Tree is a decorated tree in which its main decorations are gift ornaments. Each gift ornament will have information about what a specific child who would like for Christmas. BX shoppers or anyone interested in helping can choose an ornament, purchase the desired gift and return it wrapped and signed by "Santa."

"Christmas has become such a stressful time nowadays," said Donna Lorentz, 90th Force Support Squadron. "This program helps relieve some of that stress."

Children who are selected for the program are nominated, usually through the first sergeants, and their ornament is anonymous on the tree. Nomination ornaments can also be obtained and turned into Mrs. Lorentz.

In 2006, the Angel Tree helped donate about 210 gifts for children. A large contributor of the program is the Cheyenne Board of Realtors, who helped 12 families last year alone.
"It was so unbelievable what the realtors did for the families," Mrs. Lorentz said.

The tree will be assembled and decorated Saturday in the BX at 1 p.m. The tree decorating is open for anyone interested.

Dec. 12 is the last day of the program when all gifts must be turned in to either the BX or to Mrs. Lorentz at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. For more information call Mrs. Lorentz at 773-5941.
