A ground breaking ceremony took place Nov. 20 for the Wyoming Army National Guard's Aviation Support facility and Joint Forces Reserve Center.

The new facilities will be located on Warren's northern boundaries. The move is a result of a Base Realignment and Closure program decision that was made in 2005. The BRAC program's plan called for Reserve centers across Wyoming to be closed and consolidated. This decision included the Wyoming ANG Aviation Support Facility located at the Cheyenne Airport.

"This is an extremely important day for the Guard," said Maj. Gen. Ed Wright, Wyoming ANG Adjutant General. "We look forward to being part of Warren and working with its people."

The AASF portion is a $44 million, 103,000 square foot facility. It will support nine Wyoming ANG UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters. Construction begins this month and its estimated completion date is in the spring of 2009.

"Today's events only lead the way to that great moment when we can cut the ribbon to the new facility," the general said.

The JFRC is a $44.5 million, 160,000 square-foot facility that will house about 400 people from the Wyoming Army and Air National Guards. It's still in the design phases and the estimated completion time is summer of 2010.

Warren and the Guard have worked closely through the planning process."It's exciting for the Guard folks to be part of Warren," said Col. Mike Morgan, 90th Space Wing commander. "Everybody is a winner: the Wyoming Guard, the Air Force and the community."
