Warren’s youth deploy Published June 11, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Daryl Knee 90th Space Wing Public Affairs F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- Warren's 2nd annual S.P.A.C.E. Junior Deployer event takes place here Saturday. The special processing, authorization and combat effectiveness event is a mock deployment for children to experience what their parent or sponsor does to ready for a deployment. "It's an opportunity for the children to find out what a deployment truly is," said Andrea Black. "There's a whole process to them; parents don't just get on a plane and fly to another country." The day begins in the youth center at 8:30 with check in and chalk assignment, Ms. Black said. This year, there will be 4 chalks. The students will be grouped with a chalk with a similar age group. From there, the children depart for a deployment line, followed by a touring of static displays at the 30th Airlift Squadron flightline and a deployment to "Fewastan." "When the children reach the 'deployed location,' they can see that it's not always fun when people deploy," Ms. Black said. "They'll be eating [Meals Ready to Eat] and taking a first-hand account of many aspects of deployments." After leaving "Fewastan," the children return to the youth center for a welcome home party, she said. Banners, streamers and flags are positioned for the return-home party, and the children receive certificates of participation. Children 12 and younger will have to be accompanied by an adult, Ms. Black said. However, regardless of age, all parents are encouraged to participate. "This is a great time to spend with your kids," she said. "They will learn about your job, and together you can create a memory."
