Golfers visited Warren July 15 as part of a 50-day fundraising event designed to increase awareness and raise money for cancer prevention.

Bill Evans, an Atlanta businessman and co-founder of The 50 in 50, and Craig Forney, PGA Golf Professional, visited the base golf course after visiting 42 other golf courses in 42 different states.

"We call it extreme fundraising, because we are going to 50 golf courses in 50 States in only 50 days," Mr. Evans said.

While on base, Mr. Evans and Mr. Forney were able to speak to 90th Medical Group staff about preventative measures available to military members and their families. Warren is the only military installation scheduled on the nation-wide tour.

The 50 in 50, which started in Vermont and will end in Hawaii, aims to raise money and awareness for prevention and research focused on melanoma, prostate cancer and breast cancer.

"We want to be proactive and prevent lives from being lost," Mr. Forney said.

Besides playing golf, The 50 in 50 team, which includes a camera crew and production team, will be visiting cancer research centers and hospitals, and speaking with cancer survivors in the local areas.

They also hope to raise $20,000 in each state, a grand total of $1 million, for cancer research and prevention.

With, seven states in seven days left to go, the duo's next stop is Billings, Mont.

Although the schedule is very busy, Mr. Forney and Mr. Evans are happy to be making a difference.

"I will make sacrifices to make sure more people hear about this cause," Mr. Forney said.
