Warren members deploying to the missile field have an option for free night-time and weekend childcare -- Missile Care.

The Missile Care program is designed for single parents or duel-military parents that trip out to the missile field for more than 24 hours, said Mara Lackie, Warren Family Child Care coordinator.

This is supplemental care that would take over for weekdays and weekends when other childcare isn't normally open, Ms. Lackie said.

"The parents have to be paying for full-time childcare in order to be enrolled in this program," she said. "This childcare basically picks up on the weekends or from the hours of 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. during the week when other child care isn't available."

To enroll in the program parents need a note from their first sergeant in order to qualify, she explained.

They will also need to have their child's shot records and sign a six-month contract with the Family Child Care office.

The missile duty or extended duty contract basically states the parents realize that if their work schedule changes they just can't "no show" the program because if they don't use the program the contractor still gets paid, she said.

"After three no shows the parent will be suspended from the program because that is a waste of government funds," Ms. Lackie said.

Parents also need to realize they must have enough diapers, food, clothes and other items the child would need while the parents are out in the missile field, she said.

The weekday or weekend missile provider basically picks the child up from childcare and takes care of the child until the parent returns home, Ms. Lackie said.

"Families can use this free program any time they need the childcare as long as they are on duty," she said "The only thing I require is parents must turn in their schedules once a month so I have verification that they are working, and so the providers will know where to pick up the children."
