The 90th Contracting Squadron will be lose one of its most experienced and most tenured members.

After more than 20 years with the 90th CONS, Charles Melvin, known as "The Mel Man," will move to San Antonio.

"I looked at my job with [90th CONS] as a marvelous opportunity to get into civil service, and it has been a wonderful career," reflects Mr. Melvin looking back on his time spent in the squadron.

"Just give whatever it takes to make sure the mission is met," are great words of wisdom from a man who has been around the process for a long time - more than 34 years.

In October of 1986, Mr. Melvin arrived at 90th CONS as the military executive NCO where he retired shortly after in December of 1988 and returned to 90th CONS as the quality assurance program manager.

From there, he became the branch chief for the Commodities Flight, and then on to chief of the Services Flight from 1992 to 1995.

Mr. Melvin then left Warren to take on the role of a services contract specialist and ultimately the chief of the Services Flight at 36th CONS at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, and remained there from October of 1995 to October of 1998.

After his stint in Guam, "The Mel Man" returned to the states and the 90th CONS where his role and responsibility increased with each position assumed.

He was chief of the construction flight and later served as the director of business operations, the highest civilian position in 90th CONS.

Mr. Melvin announced in February he leaves for San Antonio to "return to the basics" as a contract specialist.

"I am ecstatic to go to San Antonio and get my hands back into the assembly of writing and awarding contracts once again," he said.

It is getting close to the time where Mr. Melvin will have to close a larger chapter in his life full of memories and moments that cannot be forgotten.
