The Warren Spouses Club is holding its fifth annual Dollars for Scholars basket auction Feb. 28 in the Trail's End Club.

The scholarship was designed to raise money for local military families in order to help them put their children and spouses through college, said Nicole Williams, WSC president.

Last year the event raised more than $17,000 for the scholarship, and Mrs. Williams said she hopes this year will be no different.

The basket auction begins at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 28, with a silent auction and social hour in the Trail's End Club.

The silent auctions are usually less expensive items auctioned off before the main event. The items are located in the lobby and bids are made on the pieces of paper located near the items.

The live basket auction begins at 7 p.m. with many different baskets available.

Last year some of the things auctioned were sports packages, quilts, baby baskets, video game baskets, college baskets and a 10-person meal at a local restaurant.

"We have a lot of great things that have been donated for the auction already," Mrs. Williams said. "But we are still taking donations."

Throughout the night desserts are auctioned and last year some of the desserts alone raised about $350.

The cost for the event is $12, and this year's dress is "Denim to Diamonds."

"We want this year to be a little different than previous years," Mrs. Williams said. "We hope to see people dressed in everything from men in western wear to women in ballroom dress."

Childcare will be provided for children under the age of 12.
