Main gate experiences renovations Published March 19, 2009 By Staff Sgt. Chad Thompson 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- Warren's main gate closes April 1 for construction to make quality of life and safety improvements for those working at the gate and for members entering and exiting base. The improvements are focusing on increasing security, safety and traffic flow for the main gate, said Julie Whalen, 90th Civil Engineer Squadron. Having speed tables at the main gate will eliminate vehicles drastically starting and stopping due to the speed bumps, Mrs. Whalen said. The speed tables are designed for smoother transitions and are typically less jarring than a speed bump. Expanding and upgrading the VCC and parking area will allow an easier and safer traffic flow through the VCC area, she said. The guard shack upgrades will increase the quality of life for the Airmen working the gates and increasing safety during inclement weather, Mrs. Whalen said. Installing a turn-around will allow for a safer departure for those coming on base entering by mistake, she said. These are all upgrades other bases around the Air Force have been implementing for the last few years, Mrs. Whalen said. This project will dramatically increase safety, security and quality of life for the Airmen at the gates, and should increase the safety of those entering base.
