The Warren Spouses Club elected its newest president on April 21.

So far, she has planned a number of events, fundraisers and charities in the Warren community.

Missy Cook, wife of Twentieth Air Force's Maj. Mike Cook, is no stranger to being a spouses club board member. She's been actively involved in the program for years.

She served as president on the spouses club board at Offut Air Force Base, Neb., and also won the Air Force Strategic Command's spouse of the year in 2006.

"I have been a member on the board since I got to F.E. Warren in 2008," Mrs. Cook said.

Because of her experience, dedication and commitment to the club, it was only natural for her to emerge as the leader. However, Mrs. Cook said all decisions regarding the Warren Spouses Club are ultimately made as a group.

"I consider this a team," Mrs. Cook said. "Every member has input on the decisions that the board makes.

"This year, we plan to do traditional spouses club activities," Mrs. Cook said. "We're going back to our roots. We want to provide more social and volunteer opportunities for people who want to get involved."

Currently, the Warren Spouses Club is preparing for a busy summer of events. The WSC homes tour takes place July 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This will run in conjunction with the base open house during Cheyenne Frontier Days and will provide an opportunity for the community to come on base and tour the historic officer homes.

Mrs. Cook said they are still looking for volunteers to help as tour guides.

She said she is also excited about the spouses club Welcome Luau which takes place August 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"This great social opportunity for new and existing members," Mrs. Cook said.

She added that this event is the perfect opportunity for the Warren community to learn more about the club and to start participating in some of their charity programs that raise money for scholarships, the Air Force Aid Society, base teams and the Arrive Alive program.

The spouses club will also be holding a 5K run fundraiser August 22 to help raise money for these programs, she said. The spouses club also runs the base thrift shop as an ongoing fundraiser throughout the year.

The thrift shop will be closed for the month of July, but it is typically open the first and third Saturday of the month and on Thursday.

Mrs. Cook said she is looking forward to her term as president of the spouses club and she hopes they get more spouses to join.

"We still have three open positions on the board," Mrs. Cook said. "I would love to fill them.

"Members can join anytime by sending us an e-mail at warrenspousesclub@yahoo.com," she added.

Mrs. Cook encourages anyone who in interested in the Warren Spouses Club to attend a meeting, a function or stop by the base thrift shop.

The club is open to spouses of all active-duty, Guard and Reserve members assigned to Warren. They meet the first Tuesday of every month in the base museum at 6:45 p.m. For more information visit their Web site at http://warrenspousesclub.com.
