Leaders conduct wingman briefings Published Feb. 22, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Mike Tryon 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- The 90th Missile Wing had its first of three wingman days Feb. 12. All members were separated into sections and sent to different areas around the base to attend briefings by leadership on what it means to be a wingman. Col. Steve Miller, 90th Security Forces Group commander, began his briefing by saying that communication is critical to being a good wingman. The main focus of the brief was that with teamwork, Airmen can accomplish anything. While it's true that one person can really make a difference, it takes teamwork to get the job done, Colonel Miller said. After talking about teamwork, Colonel Miller focused on Warren's mission. "We're in a blue collar mission," Colonel Miller said. "And it takes a blue collar mindset to work that mission." Being blue collar means it's doing what it takes to get the job done right. Colonel Miller mentioned that the core values play a big role in that mindset too. The profession of arms was the next topic Colonel Miller discussed. One of the greatest things the members of the Mighty Ninety are good at is being professional, he said. And with that, toughness is the one thing that needs to be stressed more. Toughness covers more than just the physical aspect, Colonel Miller said. There's mental and spiritual toughness as well. While talking about toughness, the topic of suicides came up. "Suicide is not the answer," Colonel Miller said. "It's a long-term solution to a short-term problem." After Colonel Miller finished, Tony Fontes, 90th Medical Operations Squadron, talked about resiliency. "Resiliency is the ability to bounce back and adapt to adversity," Mr. Fontes said. He went on to explain resiliency with a demonstration using an egg wrapped in bubble wrap. "With the right amount of resiliency, the egg won't be damaged when it's dropped," Mr. Fontes said. Sure, some of the resiliency will be damaged, or in this case popped, but there's enough to protect the egg, he added. With trust, teamwork, toughness and resiliency the Mighty Ninety will continue to provide preeminent combat capability across the spectrum of conflict.
