A scheduled Minuteman III ICBM test was launched at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., at 3:01 a.m. June 16 from Launch Facility-10.

This was the first Minuteman III missile Warren provided since its realignment under Air Force Global Strike Command.

"It was an honor to not only be the 200th test launch, but the first launch of Air Force Global Strike Command," said Col. Greg Tims, 90th Missile Wing commander.

"Our team of professionals from Warren took part in a successful launch showing how we provide preeminent combat capability across the spectrum of conflict," he added.

The missile's single re-entry test vehicle traveled about 4,190 miles before hitting its pre-determined target near the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

Missiles launched from Vandenberg carry sophisticated data collection equipment, according to Col. Carl DeKemper, 576th Flight Test Squadron commander. ICBM analysts, including the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy, will use the data collected from this mission for continuing force development evaluation.

"The Mighty Ninety, in partnership with our 576th experts, proved to adversaries and allies that we remain capable of placing a bomb on target on time," said Lt. Col. John Duda, 319th Missile Squadron Director of Operations. "Tenacity, teamwork and expertise once more proved the Minuteman III remains a viable cornerstone of deterrence and prompt global strike missions."
