Ever wonder how to get the word out about the new, exciting or important things going on in a squadron? Ever thought, "Man, this would be something great to share with everyone; someone should put this in the paper" or "How was this event not covered?"

A great opportunity is out there for motivated Airmen throughout this wing to assist the public affairs office with spreading the news about squadron functions, i.e., retirement ceremonies, awards presentations and other interesting happenings.

The Unit Public Affairs Representative program is a command-directed program which tasks members of the various squadrons to aide PA in gathering information and spreading the word about the members and mission here. The public affairs staff can provide the training to interested individuals on how to conduct interviews, how to write stories, how to take photos and even how to engage the media. Not only will PA provide guidance on how to get the unit's messages out, they also have all the equipment - cameras and audio and video recorders - needed to do so.

Being a UPAR is a great way to spread the word about what your squadron is doing. It is also a great opportunity to show leadership the mission matters. Getting recognized for contributing is an added bonus.

Any individual, squadron, agency or base organization can designate a UPAR to represent them or speak on their behalf. If wanting to be a UPAR, contact the squadron's commander or first sergeant, or the unit's president, so they can draft the appointment letter for the PA office. If wanting to help out in an "un-official" capacity, contact the PA staff at 773-3381.
