Air Force Global Strike Command's Director of Logistics, Installations and Mission Support met with base leadership, toured facilities and spoke at an Airmen Leadership School graduation during her visit here March 30 to April 1.

A highlight of Ann Mitchell's visit to the 90th Civil Engineer Squadron, came when she awarded an Air Force Combat Action Medal to Senior Airman Daniel Mickelson, 90th CES, for actions earned during a 2010 deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

"I was so proud to have met such a phenomenal Airman, and learning about the heroic things he did at such a young age," Ms. Mitchell said. "It is awe-inspiring, and although shaking his hand is such a small act, I was very humbled in presenting the award to him."

For her graduation speech March 31, Col. Greg Tims, 90th Missile Wing commander, introduced Ms. Mitchell to Airman Leadership School Class 11-Delta, 29 Airmen who had just completed the five-week-long course.

"Since Air Force Global Strike Command was established, Ms. Mitchell has been a constant champion of the ICBM mission, to include sustainment and improvement efforts across the fleet," Colonel Tims said. "We are very grateful for the countless contributions she has made to keep us combat ready."

Ms. Mitchell's theme during her speech was "Yesterday, today and tomorrow."

"Yesterday, you were a follower; today you make a transition; and tomorrow, you will be a leader striving for excellence. Be proud of the responsibility and make a positive difference every day," she said.

Ms. Mitchell's visit to the base also allowed Warren Airmen to discuss issues unique to F. E. Warren and AFGSC with the command's senior logistician and mission support leader.

"My vision is to make a difference, every day for you, our customers," Ms. Mitchell said. "I need to understand what the issues are. The best way to understand your concerns is to make personal visits to each Global Strike base and see for myself."

"I need to see the areas that need help, see the improvements, and assess how the priorities are being met," she added.

Some specific challenges Warren faces are the historic facilities of the base and the distance between the base and Camp Guernsey, Wyo., a premier Joint Training Center, about 100 miles away, Ms. Mitchell said.

"But the high level of morale and initiative the Airmen have in handling the problems that arise is extremely remarkable."
