Warren shows appreciation for those who have served before Published April 21, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Dan Gage 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- Members of the local retired military community visited the 90th Medical Group Saturday for Warren's military retiree appreciation day. The event was an opportunity for members of the retired community to meet and share stories with those serving at Warren and receive information about services offered here. Those attending the event received briefings by Col. Francesca Vasta-Falldorf, 90th MDG commander, on services provided at the medical group, Capt. Sarah Hooker, 90th Medical Support Squadron, on benefits the pharmacy offers and Kerry Glaser, 90th Force Support Squadron, on the Survivor Benefits Program. Tables were also set-up throughout the medical group providing information on the many services offered to retirees in the community including TriWest, the commissary and survivor benefits. "This is a great opportunity to learn about the different services that are offered here," said Bob Wurdemann, a retired Army cardiology technician who served in the military for more than 20 years. "Many of these benefits are things we may already be aware of, but this type of event works as a reminder of all the services available." Attendees also had the opportunity to get new identification cards, register with the Defense Biometric Identification System, refill prescriptions and receive immunizations while at the event. "There are so many services and benefits," said Carol Wurdeman. "It's great to have them all in one place for us." Members of Cheyenne's retired military community also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the base and members of the Mighty Ninety. The base museum was open for tours and members of the Rising 6, Warren's Top 3 and the Company Grade Officer Council took the chance to visit and share stories with the retired military members and their families. "What young people look for are examples to live up to," said Col. Scott Fox, 90th Missile Wing vice commander. "The people I see in these halls this morning are just that; a group of men and women who are great examples to live up to." "This is our opportunity to give back," Col. Fox added. At the end of the event, the Rising 6 provided a free lunch to those in attendance. "The whole base really came together to put on this event," said Master Sgt. Petra Rodriguez, 90th Medical Operations Squadron. "When people and organizations heard that we needed something to put this together, they gave what they could. "The commissary provided much of the food at no charge and when security forces heard we needed more tables and chairs, they not only provided us what we needed, they delivered and set them up as well," Sgt. Rodriguez added. "We have a large retired population in and around Cheyenne," Colonel. Fox said. "Along with providing preeminent combat capability, part of our job here is to provide you with support. "It's our way of thanking you for your years of service," Colonel Fox added.
