AFGSC generals visit Mighty Ninety Published May 13, 2011 By Staff Sgt. Torri Ingalsbe 90th Missile Wing, Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- Two senior leaders from Global Strike Command headquarters in Louisiana took time to visit Warren May 3-5 for a look at how helicopters and ground-based security forces work together in ICBM missile fields. Brig. Gen. Timothy Ray, Air Force Global Strike Command Director of Operations, and Brig. Gen. Jeffry Smith, AFGSC Director of Plans, Programs and Requirements, accepted the wing's invitation to observe joint tactical exercises at Camp Guernsey, about 100 miles north of Warren, where security forces training occurs on a daily basis. "The purpose of this visit was to highlight the importance of integrating both ground and air assets when protecting our nuclear resources," said Col. Rob Vercher, 90th Operations Group commander. "We also wanted to showcase the robust tactical training at Camp Guernsey that facilitates this integration and increases our nuclear surety." In the spotlight were 90th Security Forces Group Tactical Response Force Airmen and 37th Helicopter Squadron Airmen, working through a series of recapture and assault scenarios. "Seeing how all of this works, and more importantly, talking with the Airmen who make it possible, makes us at the headquarters better able to advocate for, support, refine and resource this critical capability," General Ray said. "The synergy between security forces and helicopter personnel was a testament to our constant attention to detail and standard of perfection," the general said. "Equally impressive is the superb support provided by the Wyoming National Guard. Camp Guernsey is a phenomenal facility and we are very fortunate to have access to it."
