Warren's building 31 will be the new home of the base museum and historian's office after construction is complete at a date to be determined.

The new location will allow everything in the museum, plus the base historian's office, to be in one place. The museum is currently split between building 210 and building 211.

Paula Taylor, 90th Missile Wing museum director, plans on creating three different sections of displays on the first floor.

Displays about the ICBM mission will be to the left, the center will have displays about the history of the building itself, and exhibits showcasing Air Force Global Strike Command's F. E. Warren Air Force Base's history will be to the right.

There will also be a wrap-around porch as well as a patio outside of the conference room.

"I am excited that the museum will have the ability to hold diverse functions, such as retirements," said Ms. Taylor. "The new space will also allow us to change exhibits seasonally and better accommodate school groups."

She also said there will be room for the Peacekeeper trainer to be displayed, which has not been possible in the current buildings.

Another new feature will be a children's room, with historical children's clothing displayed in shadow boxes on the walls, and educational items for interactive play and learning.

Michael Byrd, 90th Missile Wing historian, will also be moving his office to the new building. He is currently located in the wing headquarters building.

Mr. Byrd said he will still perform the same duties, but being collocated with the museum will be helpful.

"I will continue to gather information, perform analysis, and write the story of the 90th Missile Wing," he said. "Paula and I will combine our working libraries and archives to enhance the base's heritage and answer queries more efficiently."

The museum is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and closed weekends and federal holidays. Call (307) 773-2980 for more information.
