Secretaries at Air Force Global Strike Command's F. E. Warren Air Force Base gathered on Thursday for a luncheon at the base's golf course.

The luncheon is held every quarter as an opportunity for Warren's administrative assistants to interact with each other, and for Warren to show it's appreciation for what they do on a daily basis.

At each luncheon there are door prizes, games and a theme to the event. This quarter's theme is a luau styled event, said Kay Bybee, 90th Security Forces Group, with 22 years experience working on base.

"You get to see the people you talk to on the phone on a daily basis who you might not know," said Carla Winkler, 90th Operations Group and Warren member since 1987. "It's a great opportunity to put a face to the name."

"Mostly it's a chance for us to relax and enjoy each other's company," Mrs. Winkler added.

For those who are new to the Warren community, the secretary's luncheon is an opportunity to introduce themselves and learn from others.

"I've been here for about a year," said Cynthia Duran, 90th Maintenance Group. "I'm not as experienced here as some of the secretaries at Warren, these luncheons give me an opportunity to get to know people, gain experience and get comfortable."

The luncheon is also an opportunity for those working on base now to get to know those who have retired from their time at F. E. Warren.

"There are approximately 36 secretaries on base and a number of retired secretaries in the community that attend the luncheon," said Nila Connors, 90th Missile Wing, who has been at Warren for 22 years.

"These luncheons are a very effective communications tool and a great way to build camaraderie between those who we work with now and those who have come before," Mrs. Connors added.

The secretary's luncheon is an opportunity for Warren's secretaries to relax from a busy schedule.

"Our administrative assistants are the central communications hub for everything coming in and out of our organization," said Col. Robert Vercher, 90th Operations Group commander.

"From a commander's perspective," Col. Vercher added. "My schedule changes 100 times over the course of just a few days, I've never gone somewhere I wasn't supposed to be and that's due to the hard work of Mrs. Winkler."

The 90th Operations Group along with the rest of the Mighty Ninety runs on time, said Col. Vercher. "We're on schedule due in large part to our secretaries."
