Golfing “fore!” the children: 90th SSPTS raises money for The Children’s Hospital Published June 23, 2011 By Staff Sgt. Torri Ingalsbe 90th Missile Wing, Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- More than 75 security forces and local community members participated in a 90th Security Support Squadron-hosted golf tournament, benefiting The Children's Hospital in Denver, June 17 at the base golf course. More than $4,000 was raised during the all-day event, which was open to anyone within the tri-state area. A ceremony to present the funds to the hospital is pending. "In November, my daughter had open-heart surgery at the Children's Hospital," said Tech. Sgt. Bryan Broberg, 90th SSPTS Armory NCOIC. Sergeant Broberg was one of the key organizers of the event. "I didn't realize everything that went on there for families. I felt the need to give back to the hospital in a unique way - through golf. That's what started everything." According to their Web site, the Children's Hospital Colorado delivers family-centered care, and takes pride in pioneering new ways of curing childhood diseases. Their mission is to improve the health of children through the provision of high-quality coordinated programs of patient care, education, research and recovery. Sergeant Broberg explained the importance of this particular hospital to his own squadron, the smallest in the 90th Security Forces Group. In the last six months, two other dependents within 90th SSPTS have had heart surgery at the Children's Hospital. The Children's Hospital sees, treats and heals more children than any hospital in the region, according to their Web site. They are a family-focused hospital, striving to make it easier for parents and siblings to be involved in the day-to-day medical, emotional and social needs of the patients. "The Children's Hospital depends on the generosity of donors," Sergeant Broberg said. "Parents want to believe nothing will ever happen to their children, but in the event it does, there is a place like The Children's Hospital we can be thankful for."
