Fitness facilities renovated to improve fitness experience Published Dec. 9, 2011 By Senior Airman Mike Tryon 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- Warren's fitness facilities, Freedom Hall and Independence Hall, have received roughly $600 thousand renovations, upgrades and improvements throughout 2011, to improve patrons' fitness experiences. Some of those renovations included new locker rooms for Independence Hall; an outdoor exercise pad, which is located outside Freedom Hall; refinished hardwood floors for both facilities; new showers and sauna for the men's locker room in Freedom Hall; several new pieces of cardio equipment and almost a 100 percent turnover of new weight equipment. "The Air Force funded about $50 thousand on new stationary bicycles and nearly $200 thousand to replace all the weight equipment," said Bonnie Schwartzkopf, 90th Force Support Squadron fitness and sports program manager. "We've had a flood of compliments on our new equipment." Along with the upgrades and renovations, the fitness center staff has updated the incentive programs offered to help further motivate individuals to increase and achieve their fitness goals. Some of the incentive programs include the upcoming second annual Warren Fitness Challenge, Xtreme Challenge -- a program run by the 90th FSS, Frontiercade -- which is led by marketing and run by the Fall Hall Community Center and fitness; and five different "Get Fit" incentive programs. The Get Fit programs include bench press, a running club, a hiking club, a walking club and a cycling club. Each of those programs are multi-tiered with prizes awarded for the varying levels of completion. "The Get Fit programs are run on an 'honor system,'" said Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Romero, 90th FSS special events coordinator. "Members are asked to fill out a yellow card with their name, which program they're doing and then what they accomplished during their fitness session. "The nice thing about these programs is there isn't any time constraint to complete all six levels," she added. Some additional products offered are massage therapy, which will be transferred from the aquatic center, and drop-in volleyball and soccer Wednesday nights. A parent-child workout room is also available and includes a play area for children, in addition to cardio machines and free weights. Group aerobics, such as Zumba, spinning and others, are also offered in Freedom Hall. "Our goal is to provide a little something for everybody regardless of their current fitness level," Schwartzkopf said. "We hope that people will utilize our facilities to help themselves establish, maintain and exceed their fitness goals where we can offer them the best possible experience to enjoy a long-term healthy, active lifestyle. It could be individually, or in a group setting at group aerobics, squadron physical training or intramurals."
