Warren’s Tax Center opens Published Feb. 3, 2012 By Senior Airman Mike Tryon 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- With the beginning of a new year comes several changes -- resolutions, changing seasons, grey hairs and tax season. While Mighty Ninety members can choose to file their taxes by themselves, or can solicit the help of tax professionals downtown, another option lies with Warren's Tax Center, which will be open Feb. 6 through April 17. Capt. Matthew Simonds, 90th Missile Wing Judge Advocate, is this year's legal officer in charge of the tax center. "Hundreds of changes happen yearly regarding tax laws; most of which have a direct impact on tax payers," Simonds said. "Even the most seasoned tax professionals receive a yearly update in order to adequately prepare a tax return, and Warren's tax preparers receive training directly from the Internal Revenue Service and have years of experience." Not knowing current tax laws when preparing a tax return could result in a lower refund amount. "The safest, most reliable and cost effective choice for filing your return is to use the Warren Tax Center," Simonds added. The base's no-cost service provided by volunteer preparers is open to all active-duty, Reserve, Guardsmen, retiree, dependents and Department of Defense personnel. "We offer a full spectrum of tax preparation of federal and state tax returns, including e-filing services for most returns," Simonds said. "There are a few limitations to what we offer, but we try and help all who come." The hours of operation for the tax center are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except the hour of noon to 1 p.m. The center is located in Bldg. 232 Suite 101. Parking is available off 10th Cavalry Road. While those filing a 1040EZ form -- single or married without dependents and only income from wages or bank account interest -- can be seen on a "walk-in basis," they will be seen at a lower priority of those who have made appointments.
