Airmen's Attic offers Warren members chance to give, receive Published Feb. 17, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Dan Gage 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- The Airmen's Attic here offers Warren members and retirees in the community the opportunity to give and receive, all at no cost to them. Located in Bldg. 347 on Diamond Creek Way, the Airmen's Attic offers everything from household goods, clothing, uniform items and children's toys. "In one quarter there were more than 7,700 items distributed through the Airmen's Attic," said Tech. Sgt. Joshua Hinsey, First-term Airmen's Center NCO-in-charge. "We had more than 2,000 patrons visit the attic. Typically, there are more than 100 visitors to the Airman's Attic on any given Saturday when it's open for business." The Airmen's attic is open Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon, during this time items can either be picked up or left for donation. "The attic is free for any patrons; no monetary exchanges take place," Hinsey said. "However, we are always in need of non-monetary donations to keep the outstanding service available to the F. E. Warren community. We only ask that donations are not left on the front porch of the building." While anyone can donate items during business hours on Saturday, there are certain limitations on members who wish to take items home. "Quantities are based on the category the item belongs to," Hinsey said. "There are some items and times when items are unlimited to patrons. For example, books at this time are unlimited for the taking." The Airmen's Attic is also open to certain ranks at certain times, according to Hinsey. The first through third Saturday of the month is designated for E-1 through E-4 and their dependents, while the last Saturday is open to all ranks and retirees. Since early 2011, the Airmen's Attic has been sponsored by the local Air Force Sergeants Association and is operated through volunteer work. "The AFSA understands the importance of taking care of the enlisted force," Hinsey said. "The Airmen's Attic is one of those resources where the enlisted force is taken care of without costs associated with the service; our goal is to keep money in the pockets of the Airmen and ensure those in need are provided for." "We are always looking for volunteers to assist on Saturday and even times throughout the week," Hinsey added. "There is great work to be done to always improve and offer better services through the Airmen's Attic."
