More than 70 members and friends from across the 90th Missile Wing teed off at the base golf course for the Third Annual Global Strike Challenge Golf Tournament July 12.

The tournament was the kick-off fundraiser for this year's Global Strike Challenge, which is a competition between operations, maintenance and security forces teams from bomber and missile wings. This year's competition among the wings began in June and culminates in a conference with score-posting in November, to showcase which bomber and missile wing is the best-of-the-best of Air Force Global Strike Command.

The 90th Missile Wing has won the Blanchard Trophy for best ICBM wing the past two years and is not looking to give it back.

"The support, spirit and intensity that you all bring to the nuclear mission and 'Team Warren' every day is inspiring," said Col. George Farfour, 90th Missile Wing vice commander, addressing the teams before teeing off. "The Mighty Ninety will prove its expertise once again, and come Fall, we will 'Three-Peat' to bring the Blanchard Trophy back to Warren again, where it belongs!"

The 90th Maintenance Group hosted this year's golf tournament, and raised more than $1,100. The tournament was played as a four-man scramble with options to purchase mulligans, string to modify ball location, or "Red Bombs," which a player could use to hit at the red tee-box on the hole of his choice.

Additional prizes were given to teams or individuals for closest to the hole, longest drive, lowest and highest scoring team.

The champion team for this year's tournament was Team Seven from the 90th Security Forces Group with a low-score of 55, 17 under par: Larry Stockdale, Staff Sgt. Aaron Withey, Senior Airmen Bryan Gill and Shane Buckholz.

Gill also won the longest drive contest with a drive of 340 yards.

Closest to the hole was won by Staff Sgt. Geoffrey Kirchner, 90th Maintenance Operations Squadron.

Winning free golf lessons with the highest score for the tournament, with 20 over par, from the 90th Operations Group were: 1st Lt. Gregory Scott, 1st Lt. Joseph Buckingham, 1st Lt. Andrea Schaaf, and 1st Lt. Stephen McVay.

"It was a successful first event to start the Global Strike Challenge season," said Maj. Paul Hendrickson, 319th Missile Squadron assistant operations officer and GSC project officer. "The quest for three began at the tee, and it couldn't have been a better start to bring the trophy back to Warren."
