Motorcycle-riding F. E. Warren Airmen took an approximately 160-mile Motorcycle Mentorship Ride from F. E. Warren through Wyoming and Colorado Sept. 21.

The route went from F. E. Warren to Laramie, Wyo., then went south to Fort Collins, Colo., before returning north along Interstate 25 back to base.

It was the last ride scheduled for 2012. When the harsh Wyoming winter's ice and snow cover the ground, motorcycle riding will be unsafe, said Troy Weaver, 90th Missile Wing Traffic Safety.

The ride's intent is to get a mix of experienced and inexperienced riders to ride together, Weaver said.

"It's for the young troops at F. E. Warren," he said. "It's to get them out with us, who I call 'old timers,' to get them more experience."

One rider, Staff Sgt. Kenneth Rexwinkle, 90th Force Support Squadron unit deployment manager, is the motorcycle safety representative.

"I make sure all the riders in our squadron have all the safety equipment and credentials they need," he said. "I also help them stay up-to-date on base riding regulations."

Rexwinkle said the mentorship rides give him an opportunity to see how people in his unit ride, and he can make suggestions for improvement.

Chief Master Sgt. Michael Garrou, 90th Missile Wing command chief, coordinated three Motorcycle Mentorship rides with the 90th Missile Wing Safety Office. Ride coordinators hope to have one ride per month during the riding season in 2013 beginning in April, Garrou said.

Weaver said he hopes the rides increase in number of participants next year.

"We've got more bikes this time than the first two rides," he added. "My goal is to have a ride with 100 bikes."
